The Most Effective Picture Editing Software For Your Creative Needs

If you have the creative gene for fixing up photos then, you need to take a personal approach on what digital photography editing software will suit your needs. When it comes to selecting the right photo editor, you will discover that they can range from one side of the spectrum to the other in functions and usability. By the same token, the cost can range from free to hundreds of dollars. With so many choices, it is a very good idea to take advice from one whose been there….done that….and learned from it.
I use to be a photographer in a studio within a high traffic tier one mall where I used Adobe Photoshop to provide customers with professional portraits and virtual photography. I really loved using PhotoShop, it provided more than enough of the functions and features I needed to provide studio quality results. I have to admit, I never got around to learning all the function in PhotoShop but, what I did learn what I needed and I learned it very well.
Not too long ago, the studio took a turn for the worst and I had to leave. Shortly after, my computer crashed and I lost all my software leaving me without any photo editor. I was forced to decide whether or not to spend the hundreds of dollars for PhotoShop or find a much less expensive alternative. Considering that I never used all the functions anyway and with all the software packages on the market today, I decided to begin my search for a comparable alternative. This is when I learned that too much of a good thing can be overwhelming.
I knew there were a lot of them out there but, I had no idea how many. There are likely hundreds, if not thousands, to choose from. The last thing I wanted to do was to choose one today and find a better one tomorrow….at even a better price. Fortunately, I knew precisely what I was looking for. This is a crucial consideration in selecting the right digital editor….you need to be clear as to what you will be doing with it and how much time and effort you’re willing to put into learning the program.
Most of today’s digital camera’s come with some form of photography editing software, which is usually very easy to use yet, very limited in functions and capability. You will very likely be able to do limited adjusting allowing you to improve on good picture but, not very capable in fixing bad ones. This level of editing software is not for the photo enthusiast and lacking in any real creative capability.
If your looking to significantly enhance your photos or even do some creative special effects then, you will require a much more sophisticated package. Look for photography editing software packages that provides functions that allow you to fix bad photos, adjust color and textures, change orientation, re-size photos, adjust resolution and provide a diverse suite of filters for special effects. Keep in mind, that to learn these tools will require some degree of commitment in learning how to properly use them. However, once you learn their proper functions you will be very happy with the end results.
when I was searching, I knew precisely what I was looking for. This helped significantly in weeding out the ones that simply didn’t fit the bill. There are far too many choices out there to simply go out and just begin testing. First, identify what you will be using the photo editor for. Are you simply looking to enhance your photos to improve on the good ones? Or, are you looking to significantly enhance them, fix the bad ones and apply some really neat special effects? Also, consider how much commitment you have towards learning the program. There are some good packages out there that are good to go without too much training. Especially, if they have some good training material. Look for audio visual learning tools because they appear to be the most effective.
When choosing a digital photography editing software for your particular needs, it’s all about personal preference. You want to make sure you don’t get a program that is easy to use but, very limited in capability preventing you from utilizing the program to its fullest. However, contrarily….by getting a program that is too complex and requires more training than you are willing to put into it, can quickly discourage you into not realizing your personal creative potential. Each person’s requirements are different therefore, plan ahead and identify what you plan to do with your photo editor allowing you to find one that is specifically geared to meet your needs.
