But, the so-called experts in friends and relatives are scaring you by telling you that all you will get are problems with the TV. If that is the case, then its time you read this and clear some of the misconceptions about Plasma televisions once and for all.

1. Purchasing Plasma TVs are always an expensive affair – This is one of the biggest myths because back in the 1990s, when Plasma technology was in its nascent stage, the TVs were expensive owing to very low success rates. However, with the coming of age of technology and demand going up, plasmas have become much more affordable for the normal consumers like you and me.

2. Plasma television is a delicate darling – They can be delicate darlings but that is only on the glass surface because two sheets have been condensed together to make the plasma screen. Placing them upright is the correct thing to do or the glass can break since its heavy. Once the glass cracks then there is no chance of fixing it back. Considering that you are not buying a plasma so that you can use it as a muse for a prank, then your TV will stand go the distance.

3. Plasma TV emit a lot of radiation – For someone who is a technology freak, he would call this allegation totally baseless, because this is something that was said about the CRT television and has somehow stuck to the plasma. Granted, Plasmas emit UV radiation, but the count is really negligible when compared to the old world CRTs. In addition, maximum plasmas comply with limits set for emissions by authorities.

4. Plasma Televisions are Short Lived – With most manufacturers guaranteeing about 100,000 hours of TV run time, this myth really does not hold any ground. Nevertheless, a good idea to prolong its life is to set the contrast setting less than the highest setting. Running it on the highest contrast setting will reduce its life drastically.

Other Misconceptions – Factory settings should not be changed or tampered with. Well, truly speaking factory settings are for well lit rooms but if your living room or bedroom where the TV is placed is dark then change the settings accordingly. Another notable rumor is that Plasma TV sets needs plasma refilling regularly. Well, your plasma TV is not a car and plasma is not gasoline that it needs refilling.

While most of the major falsehoods surrounding plasmas have been done with here, do remember that with each passing day technology and opinions are going to differ. You know best what your needs are, so decide accordingly.
