postheadericon Bruce Willis Movies: Moonlighting or Die Hard?

I have to confess that I was never actually a fan of the show ‘Moonlighting’. I’m sure that, for Bruce Willis fans anyway, it had more than its fair share of good points; but, as someone who also didn’t really like ‘Remington Steele’, the 1980′s may not have been my time for showing an interest in this type of comedy-drama.

It wasn’t until many years later, and after a string of hit Bruce Willis movies had already been released, that I put the past behind me, and decided to rent one on DVD. The movie was far better than I’d expected, and that led to a number of ‘Bruce Willis weekends’.

Oddly enough, I didn’t start with his biggest movie up to that date, ‘Die Hard’. The very first of his films that I chose to watch was ‘Look Who’s Talking’; the comedy of talking babies never grows old. By that stage I was hooked, and was, probably, one of the few people around who didn’t think that ‘The Last Boy Scout’ and ‘Hudson Hawk’ were below-par, studio driven, money spinning exercises, and that they didn’t take the paying customer into account.

Over the years there have been many good Bruce Willis films i.e. ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘Twelve Monkeys’, ‘The Fifth Element’, ‘The Sixth Sense’, and ‘Cop Out’; as well as many that haven’t been all that good i.e. ‘Last Man Standing’, and ‘Armageddon’; actually, there have been too many in both categories to list, but, there’s still his crowning glory…

For me, “Over the hedge” would have been the highest point in his career. In all honesty I should have listed Over the Hedge in fourth or fifth position with the Die Hard series being number one. But in saying that I have not yet seen Die Hard 5. It is not due for release until 2012, so we will see if the movie continues the awesome flow of the first four. I think the fact that the Die Hard series is based on the movie sequel to a book called The Detective. The original film in the late 60′s cast Frank Sinatra in the role of Joe Leland.

The series has, so far, given us four movies, with a fifth due sometime in 2012; or 2013, you can never really tell with movie production; after all, just look at the way the latest ‘James Bond’ film was shelved, before finally getting the green light on production. So, for someone who wasn’t overly taken by the TV series that Bruce Willis debuted in, it has been interesting to see how much my mind has been changed by the Bruce Willis movies that I’ve seen over the past 20-ish years.

You know, it is now possible that at some point in the future I am going to sit back with my feet up and watch an episode of Moonlighting, after all it couldn’t be that bad! But before that happens, I am going to have to manage to sit through a Bruce Willis marathon; there is no doubt about that!
