If you are already involved with digital photography then there is a good chance that you already have all of the equipment that is needed to start. You will need a digital camera, ideally with features equivalent to an SLR film camera, a tripod or two for certain picture-taking occasions and a printer capable of printing excellent quality photographs, or a printing service.
An essential tool for digital photographers is a good photo editing program. The best applications that you can use are Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, Corel Paint Shop Pro X, and Adobe Photoshop Elemts 5.
If possible, you should invest a couple hundred dollars in marketing materials.
Before we move onto some of the next steps you have to understand one misconception. Many people believe it?s impossible to make money at photography these days. Naysayers refer to the fact that pretty much everybody has a digital camera at their disposal, or at least one on their phone. Most people think that no one will pay for pictures when people can take their own pictures.
You can do it this way. The fact of the matter is that everyone has some sort of camera. But most of them are not that good with it.
Take a look at the pictures many people take. Not everyone has creativity, showmanship, or skill. These pictures suck. Amateur photos often have motion blur, bad color or lighting, or subjects that are positioned awkwardly. Basically, they do not possess composition skills. They do not know how to avoid things like shadows over their subjects faces. Even those people that know how to use photo editing software may need help when it comes to taking amazing pictures. You can only do so much with correcting a bad photograph.
Plus, when the average Joe attempts to print their photos, things can go awry. I am sure you have seen photos like this. The prints are horrendous when it comes to resolution. re This happens when the photographer had no idea how to adjust the camera settings to produce printable photos.
This is where you come in. With your excellent digital photography skills, you can easily show prospective customers a few samples that will get them signing on the dotted line.
Maybe you do not think this is likely. Let me tell you about a birthday party I attended recently. The hostess hired an amateur photographer who was striking out to start her own business, much like you are.
Almost everyone at the party brought their own digital cameras – but once the party got rolling, who remembered to take pictures? Those people that did take pictures took bad pictures and could not get a good angle on the scene.
Of course, the photographer was paid for her services. A couple of days later, the photographer posted the photos on a web site. The party guests were sent an email with a link to the page. The photos were then downloaded, printed, or saved to the computer of those that attended the party.
The photograph did not even have to print or develop the photos and they were paid for their services as well.
How cool is that?
